Who We Are
A veteran-owned decorative concrete company in Charlotte Hall, MD, turning ordinary concrete into floors, countertops, and walls built to inspire and endure since 2005.
Our Story
In the Mix Artistic Decorative Concrete LLC opened in April 2005, but owner Tim McKenna’s work with concrete started long before that. He spent 15 years pouring slabs, piers, and transformer pads and doing everything involved in substation and power plant construction, on jobs from New York to Houston. That work taught him how concrete behaves from the ground up: how it is placed, how it cures, and how it holds up over time.
Around 2000, Tim attended the World of Concrete and discovered a whole new side of the material: concrete as a decorative medium. Countertops, skim coat designs, and stained, engraved, and polished floors. Over the next five years he took classes, honed his skills, and completed side projects between trips for his industrial work, until it was time to start his own business and let the creativity take the lead.
Today In the Mix specializes in polished and stained concrete, skim coats, cementitious overlays, epoxy and polyaspartic flooring systems including metallic and flake finishes, custom concrete countertops, and concrete wall panels. With up to a dozen well-trained employees over the years, we have taken on plenty of challenging projects, big and small. As Tim puts it, that is where the fun begins: finding a solution that is a win for everyone involved.
We work with homeowners and businesses from our base in Charlotte Hall throughout Southern Maryland, Washington, DC, and Northern Virginia. See where we work.
